Ender 3 feeder gear free

If the filament comes out stringy or curls as it comes out, you may deal with a partial clog. If the filament is not extruding at all, the nozzle could be completely clogged. Because there are different methods to clean a clogged nozzle, keep reading to find out the various ways and pick the best one for you. While incorrect nozzle calibration and a clogged nozzle are the two most common reasons why the 3D printer is not feeding filament , there are other possible causes, too. Retraction also works when the extruder moves from one of the bed areas to another, preventing the material from leaking onto the object.
The exact retraction settings might vary depending on the filament you use. So, start from the settings above and fine-tune until you find the right settings for you. The PTFE liner is an essential component of your printer. Its role is to line the extruder with PTFE for an easier guiding of the filament towards the heated end. Constant heating and cooling can wear out the PTFE liner and prevent the filament from feeding properly.
This will eventually lead to clogs. The PTFE tube could also crack due to damage. Replace the tube if necessary, preferably with one made from a heat-resistant material. Among them, the feeder gear is responsible for feeding the filament to the nozzle. In addition to the actual gear, the mechanism includes a tension spring and an idler.
Too much tension can eat into the filament , preventing it from coming out the right way. The idler could also be a cause why the extruder is not pushing the filament , generally due to too low pressure.
Fixing the spring tension and idler pressure takes some trial and error, but there are little to no adjustments to make once you calibrate the unit. Talking about feeder gears, the gears themselves could be a reason why no filament is coming from the extruder. If they are worn out, they might not be able to feed the material. Like all gears, the feeder gear has teeth that allow it to spin and feed the filament. The only solution is to replace the gears. The extruder quality also matters.
While the Ender 3 Pro comes with high-quality parts, you may have to replace the extruder at some point. If you buy a cheaper part, it might wear out faster or present feeding problems right from the start. Another 3D printer part that will wear out in time is the extruder motor. Thus, if you hear unusual sounds coming from the printer, the first thing to do is to calibrate the nozzle and check all other possible culprits mentioned above. The cog is responsible for feeding the filament through the Bowden tube.

Heat the brass gear end with a butane torch or a MAP gas torch Clamp the stepper motor into a vice Position two open-end wrenches such that you can use the open-end part of one open-end wrench underneath the brass gear while the second wrench is positioned perpendicular to the first one, underneath it photos in below article will help visualize Gently tap on the end of the first wrench, to release the brass gear Install the new gear, but you will need to grind a small flat on the shaft of the stepper motor so that the set screw has a landing.
That being said, I doubt the method depicted here is any more likely to damage the bearing than any other method that does not involve a puller. The bottom line of the question is to remove the gear from the shaft.
Your “so after some effort removed the gear” is a little short, it might be best of you explained how you removed it if it is different from the answers that are already given. My 3d printer was in major need of this small upgrade and I feel it helped improve my print quality alot. The all metal extruder is very well built and seems to grip the filament alot better than the plastic stock one.
My stock gear was already worn down so I’m glad they included a new one. The capricorn tube is also a great improvement as it guides and feeds the filament alot better as there is not alot of play inside the tube like stock one had. The new yellow more stiff springs are also a great add on. I used to have a need to eye-level my bed every other print it felt like.
Now I check my level at least once a week and have not had to re-level yet. Overall this is a great kit no complaints! Quality parts and material. Although one thing that might need some improvement are the install instructions provided as they only show instructions for extruder.
If they would provide more instructions to include the PTFE tube and springs that would be great. The assumption that this will have any impact on improving your print quality is hilarious.. They used a screen, as the method of securing the spring in place. Instead of just making 1 extra cut on the casting or cutting however they make this thing they could have added a little nub to keep the spring in place.
The spring they provide is a bit long, which if you are OCD about things being aligned, then tightening the spring down so the thumb press aligns with the housing, will put to much tension causing the extruder stepper motor to have to work harder to push the filament through. The filament is pushed so hard against the extruder tip with the teeth on it that you can see the groves of the barring in the filament.
This kept causing some of the softer filaments to be cut when going through the extruder. I ended up putting the original Ender 3 pieces back onto the machine.
Again, this does not server any purpose other than looking “pretty” and does NOT improve print quality. I should have paid attention that the listing was by comgrow but wolias was fulfilling the order. I have 4 major issues with my order. First, I got standard springs, not the upgraded yellow springs. Second, the extruder was scratched up. Third, the the smaller coupler wasn’t even included.
Then finally, the tubing was gouged and looks like someone already mangled it in an extruder. Be careful who you buy from.
Style: Extruder Verified Purchase. Just why? What genius thought of this? That’s the cheapest, most inefficient way to add tension to a spring. Guess what? Those 2 parts dont go together just because you draw it that way! This entire machine has been nothing but trash tier Chinese engineering, anyway. Everything is just made wrong. If it weren’t so expensive it would have gone into the trash already.
Don’t do what I did and take off the stock extruder in a hurry. Pay attention to how the stock extruder comes off your Ender 3, then reverse the steps to install this one, with reference to the pics on the item listing, and you’ll be OK. I installed this out of the box and don’t have a baseline between this and the stock extruder, but I can say I’ve had no extruder or feed problems when combined with Capricorn tubing, and the parts springs seem to be good quality, even if the instruction sheet that comes with this is pretty much useless.
Worst case scenario, YouTube a video on how to install one of these. I think CHEP did a good one. This is a solid product.
There are limited instructions on instillation that come with the package.

No sound and low quality. My problem is that the brass Bowden tube fitting does not attach to this frame in any way I can see.
I bought this for my Ender 3 also bought from Comgrow’s Amazon “storefront”. I developed severe underextrusion problems, and followed various advice videos, finally ending with “change to an all-metal extruder”. When I took the stock extruder apart, I found the lever arm had cracked, so yeah, that was my problem.
This product arrived on-time, and “complete” — the included “instructions” are a little card with a QR code which takes you to a YouTube video. No real complaint there. Got it installed, working, printed out the design that was causing me problems, and I was very happy with the result. I’ve printed this design fairly often, including when my stock extruder was working perfectly, and this was much better, so I’m very happy with that.
But then I noticed a little “dusting” of filament at the extruder intake hole. It makes sense, right? The OEM plastic extruder arm has worn a groove at the intake hole. Since the new one is metal, it’s the filament that’s going to wear away. Still, that’s a minuscule amount, and if I can keep the resultant “dust” from jamming anything, it might be OK.
But the other problem here is that this product’s intake hole puts the filament in contact with the z-axis screw. The extruder intake hole has always been a little close, but with this new extruder, the filament is touching. The usual 3d-printed suggested mods all only work because there is a little clearance between screw and filament, which is no longer the case. I’ve put a little PTFE sleeve on my filament between the spool and the extruder intake and positioned that at the intake hole.
As long as it stays in position, it will isolate the filament from the Z-axis screw; and may even keep the filament from getting shaved on input. I’m giving this a provisional 4-star. I bought this for a brand new Ender 3 Pro. I got the printer setup, dialed it in, and printed for over a week on it using the stock plastic extruder. Once I was confident all was working a expected, it was time to ‘upgrade my extruder’.
Its a combination of the correct tension with the correct ‘teeth’ for material you are using Screw all the way in, all the way out, and anywhere in between, tension was the same. I tried a few different hob gears, none changed it. This wasn’t my ‘First Rodeo’ with extruders, I’ve tried a few different ones. If I am doing a big run with one filament for a few days, I’ll run my BMG they aren’t friendly to me to change filaments on.
But if I’m in one of those moods where I’ll be changing filaments often, I want my plain ole Bowden Extruder Yes, you will have to dial in your E steps with ANY extruder for that matter , but the stock one has stayed consistent and reliable for me. Maybe I got a bad one, but based on my experiences, I cannot recommend this one I consider this as money spent on spare parts and an emergency backup if needed
