Most of the time keyboard does not work accordingly because of the outdated or corrupt drivers. In that case, you need to ensure that your keyboard drivers must be associated with the newest drivers. Performing this task is quite tedious using a manual approach. Windows 10 is a great operating system since it brings many highlighted features.

However, it is not perfect since many problems appear to exist. Many users have reported that their keyboard is not working in Windows Without a working keyboard, the PC may be useless. Simply put, keyboard not working on laptop may be caused by bad hardware driver, wrong regional settings, bad connection, dirt, and dust, etc. When the on-screen keyboard becomes transparent or only displays a border in Windows 10, you cannot access it.

This post offers some solutions. When the laptop starts up, press a special key that can be F2, F8, F12, Delete, etc. If you fail to boot to BIOS, there could be a hardware issue. Then, you need to carry your laptop to a professional or specialist to ask for help. If you can open the BIOS menu and use the arrow keys to navigate, the non-working keyboard may be caused by a software issue.

Then, you need to try these methods below. It is not easy to clean your laptop keyboard since you cannot easily shake and tap the laptop back without damaging to the entire unit. In my case the mouse worked always, the keyboard worked sometimes. But it was oddreally odd–and after shuffling in other keyboards, disconnecting everything else on the USB bus, I still had the problem. I COULD login with the “Disability” point with mouse and click keyboard and once logged in could usually use the normal keyboard.

When the physical keyboard became “disconnected” while I was using it I could go to a command window and find the keystrokes were not being seen there but I could open a notepad file and see it was getting the keystrokes. Bizarro world. After reading everything I could find and trying out solutions which had worked for others I finally tried the solution above.

So far all is well. This problem began just before the Anniversary Edition Windows 10 update came out, and much to my surprised remained after the update. I suspect I could have solved this by reinstalling Windows, but with Office , Photoshop, and various other programs, many of which require a call to the company involved to try them to accept the reload without charge, the pain is just too great.

Thanks for this procedure. I hope the problem does not recurand I hope Microsoft tracks down and fixes whatver problem was at work. Unfortunately after two days of working perfectly I could enter no characters at the sign-in screen using a USB keyboard.

I did log in with the “disability” tap the letter with the mouse keyboard and once logged in by this means the normal USB keyboard workedso my problem was not solved and I have given up, having exhausted all leads. I have three other computers running Windows 10, all on Anniversary Update, and none of them have this problem.

I just ran into this problem today. After a few reboots and googling I stumbled on this thread. Whils I was reading all this thread I tried the onscreen keyboard, and noticed the two Alt keys highlighted blue as if they were being pushed simultaneously. Tried clicking the left Alt, nothing. Clicked the right Alt key, bingo they both turned off. Then hit the first letter of my password, nothing. Tried Caps Lock, hit the first letter – bingo, it worked.

Then I tried the physical keyboard – the next two letters worked. I hit backspace and nothing happened. So I clicked Caps Lock on the onscreen keyboard and then tried backspace on the physical keyboard and it worked.

I was then able to enter my passwprd without a problem on the physical keyboard. Been using for 10 minutes, no issues. I hope this helps someone.

Mikey Wasson. In reply to ShaunBampton’s post on April 23, Same issue. I had this issue too, keyboard driver wan’t loading with fast boot enabled. Turn off Fast boot in control panel, power options.

Hope this helps someone. Regards PolarKev. I’m having the same problem too and it’s It’s pretty annoying because nothing on my keyboard works, only the mouse. I’m not one of those people who have an external USB keyboard either, so this is a huge issue for me.

I’m typing on a family member’s laptop right now too. This problem keeps happening and I’ve been trying to just ignore it, but it’a very troublesome, especially when I have a paper or essay to write.

I’ve tried almost everything too unless Windows or someone else has another suggestion. Same here. This has happened 5 times now, and nothing fixes it. I am a CS major, so I know how to fix these problems, but every time this has resulted in an infinite loop then a broken OS. Literally nothing works, as my keyboard and mouse failure seems to be a death omen to my PC.
