Corel painter 2016 keeps crashing free
But since my surface pro 4 updated its Win 10 a few days ago it has been crashing on startup with. I reinstalled it and started it holding down the shift key which takes out user preference? Corel Help tells me that Painter is incompatable with Surface Pro 4 but I know that is incorrect as it has been working quite well till now. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Hi, I’ve been using Corel Painter on my surface pro 4 for a while without any major problems, But since my surface pro 4 updated its Win 10 a few days ago it has been crashing on startup with the helpful message.
I reinstalled Painter – same message. I repaired it – same message. The only other thing I had changed on my computer was installing wintab from the microsoft site. That is now uninstalled. Most of their suggestions so far have been doing what I have already done – make symlinks, check in the terminal that your User folder is the one also listed in Users and Groups in the system folder, rebuild permissions and so on.
The thing does work for me if launched while logged on as my backup User folder which is on the boot drive. My main User folder on another volume. So it looks like there is something preventing the main user accessing something on the boot drive. All the solutions should have fixed this though and it has never occurred with any other software I have installed.
I have been asking for a list of files and locations the software installs so I can check but they haven’t been forthcoming. Bad installer is my guess. My mac is set up with an SSD with the boot system on it and the main user account on another volume. I think this is the issue as the alternative User account is on the SSD. I have tried Symlinks, changing permissions, trashing various plists but no joy. I am baffled that the thing works on an alternative User account but not the main one.

After a successful installation of Painter, Painter Essentials, or ParticleShop on a Windows based system, there are some times when the applications will not launch and result in a crash. When Windows returns, launch your application. In some cases a faulty installation can cause immediate crashes, due to improperly configured modules, missing files, or other abnormalities.
