Your game can “fly” on a powerful computer and the game mode is not needed at all, I have an old computer. And I noticed that a powerful computer does without a mode, but the “so-so” hardware option when starting the game is accompanied by the shutdown of most programs and processes. The gaming mode is most effective when the computer has to cope with many tasks at once – the installed Game Mode turns them off or takes them into the background and leaves all the power of the processor and video card for games.
If one program is running then the PC simply cannot find where to cut something in order to optimize it. But this situation happened to me with online games, and pre-installed, like the sims. Once enabled, Game Mode will kick in as soon as you launch a recognized game. If Microsoft releases an update in the future that allows you to individually enable Game Mode through a keyboard shortcut, it may have more use in games. While Game Mode is a mostly-beneficial feature that can and does improve performance, some users have reported errors that only occurred with Game Mode enabled.
Some Microsoft updates have temporarily caused Game Mode to have the opposite effect and resulted in lower frame rates, but those were repaired quickly. However, there are anecdotal reports that Game Mode causes the system to slow down overall. It also functions in the same way, by reducing background processes and focusing the resources on the game. Adware and bloatware are particularly insidious because they may have been installed by your computer’s manufacturer. You’d be amazed at how much more quickly your Windows 10 PC can run if you get rid of it.
First, run a system scan to find adware and malware. You can also use Windows 10’s built in anti-malware app — just type Windows Defender in the search box, press Enter, and then click Scan Now. Windows Defender will look for malware and remove any it finds. It’s a good idea to get a second opinion, though, so consider a free tool like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
The free version scans for malware and removes what it finds; the paid version offers always-on protection to stop infections in the first place.
Now you can check for bloatware and get rid of it. Several free programs will do this for you; your best bet is to run several of them, because no single one will find all the bloatware on your PC. The more you use your hard disk, the more it can become fragmented, which can slow down your PC.
When a disk gets fragmented, it stores files willy-nilly across it, and it takes a while for Windows to put them together before running them. Windows 10, though, has a built-in defragmenter you can use to defragment your hard disk.
You can even tell it to run automatically so it stays constantly defragmented. To do it, type defrag into the search box and press Enter. From the screen that appears, select the drive you want you want to defragment.
Click the Optimize button to defragment it. Select multiple disks by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking each you want to defragment. Or at least in theory. However, many users have complained that this optimization harms game performance rather than improving it, so many have chosen to turn it off.
Unfortunately, with the arrival of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the option to deactivate this game mode has disappeared. It is true that Microsoft has improved its game mode in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update in a way that better optimizes resources to avoid issues that occurred in the Creators Update.
Unfortunately, this was not enough. If our computer is compatible with this mode, Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will activate it by default to be able to enjoy it.
