Solved: Windows 10/11 Slow Boot [ Guide] – Driver Easy

We’ve now had a three laptops HP but completely different models go from working completely normally to having major problems with no obvious root cause. The latest laptop to have this happened this morning and I see no Windows Updates or HP Updates for yesterday or the previous few days. The laptops take 30 to 50 minutes to load the login screen from power on. Once logged in numerous services are not running, including not being able to view wifi networks.
These services will happily start if clicked to start from Services in Control Panel. Event Log shows multiple services failing to start during the long boot up. After manually starting these failed automatic start services the computer for the most part seems to be working, apart from being completely unable to type anything into the Cortana search bar. There may be other issues that I’ve not yet come across, but certainly nothing obvious. The same problems happens every time it is booted up now.
I’ve tried running DISM. SFC reported issues and that they were repaired. I’ve also switched off fast booting. The boot time has reduced by 20 minutes, but it still takes 30 minutes and the services not running and Cortana search problems remain.
I found the following thread on another website which describes the exact same issue. Nobody seems to have an answer there. I do not believe it is a hardware issue, as when we’ve run the hardware scan in the past it passes all the tests. HP are not interested in assisting when there is no hardware fault. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. We’ve also had this same issue occur on HP ProBooks, unfortunately those computers have been rebuilt and back out with users so I cannot get the SKU, etc for those.
On the last laptop I tried a system restore and it completed successfully, but the problems remained. It only went away after a full reset of Windows. Thanks for the link on clean booting. I’ll try that in the morning. It’s too late in the afternoon to try it since the boot up takes so long!
On the last computer to have had this I tried using the oldest restore point available and it didn’t resolve the issue. Only a full reset of Windows got it up and running normally again. I know I have this as a fall back. I’m trying to explore ways that can be done by a remote end users without them losing all the installed software and files.
I just remember that we have also experienced this on a Lenovo Yoga laptop. So it is not HP specific. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. Search the community and support articles Windows Windows 10 Search Community member.

What is the exact make and model? Another thing you can try is to reset the BIOS defaults. If that does not work, I recommend you try performing a system restore before this problem started. Choose a restore point more before the problem started.
Which version of Windows 10 is currently installed? How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. Reset the computer to start normally afterward. As a general precaution create a System Restore Point prior to initiating a clean boot.
DaveM Independent Advisor. In reply to Andre for Directly’s post on May 2, It’s running Windows 10 Pro – version build I’ll need to have a look into the BIOS to see how to reset it. All our laptops have BitLocker setup, which complicates everything enormously. In reply to auggy [Directly]’s post on May 2, Hi, Thanks for the link on clean booting.
Make sure you completely disable BitLocker before resetting your BIOS since this can prevent you from booting up and accessing your files. Are these computers also on a Domain by any chance? In reply to DaveM’s post on May 2, Hi, On the last computer to have had this I tried using the oldest restore point available and it didn’t resolve the issue. Even better would be to find out why this happening to stop it in the first place!
Thanks, Stephen. Are they on a Domain by any chance? Could be an issue with a log in script causing the issue. You’re welcome, and good luck! This site in other languages x.
